Both Carson Wentz and Dak Prescott face a milestone game this week as their teams are set to face off at Lincoln Financial Field to determine the winner of the NFC East.

Sunday’s matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys is monumental for a few reasons. First and foremost, the winner of this contest will likely go on to win the division and host a home playoff game. Secondly, whichever quarterback leads their team to a victory, Carson Wentz or Dak Prescott, could potentially change the entire narrative on their career trajectory.

If Wentz pulls off the upset, with his assortment of young, unproven weapons, the days of fans consistently pointing the finger at him for all of his team’s shortcomings could be a thing of the past. Yes, his play hasn’t been spectacular this season, but given the circumstances, he’s been dealt, it’s a miracle that Wentz even has his team in a position to win the NFC East.

From a fan’s perspective, a win this weekend would cement his status as the Eagles franchise quarterback.

Then, there’s Prescott. He’s been trying to prove that he’s the franchise guy all season. He’s put up some big numbers, but he’s only beaten one team with a winning record this season. A decisive win by Prescott in Philadelphia with the division on the line could influence Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to open up his checkbook for Dak and hand him that new deal he’s been working for all year.

This game may ultimately come down to which quarterback plays better and makes the crunch time throws. Both defenses are sub-par at best, so don’t expect a low scoring affair. Whoever has the ball in the closing moments could walk away victorious.

For as long as these two quarterbacks play in Eagles and Cowboys uniforms, they will always be compared to one another. The debate on which one is better will never end, even if the stats heavily favor one over the other.

At the end of the day, stats will never influence a fanbase as the narrative does. Wentz and Prescott have similar numbers this season. Wentz has produced 25 touchdowns versus only seven interceptions with a completion percentage of 63.4. Prescott’s produced a 26 touchdowns to 11 interception ratio with a 65.5 percent completion percentage. Based on the stats alone, there’s no clear answer as to which quarterback is better. A win for either this Sunday will go a long way in answering that question in the mind of fans.

The on-field reputation of these two young quarterbacks is on the line this weekend. Whoever comes out on top will garner the support and respect of his respective fanbase.

We’ve seen these two face each other multiple times, but none of those games have had the significance of this upcoming matchup on Sunday. Not only will the winning quarterback likely walk away with the division title, but he’ll also firmly place himself in the position of being seen as the best quarterback in the NFC East.
