Philadelphia Eagles shutting Nelson Agholor down wouldn’t make differnce
By Dan Parzych
Doug Pederson and the Philadelphia Eagles are apparently considering the possibility of shutting Nelson Agholor down for the remainder of the 2019 season due to a knee injury.
It was one thing for the Philadelphia Eagles have to adjust to the injuries surrounding DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery, but the team has also been forced to adjust to playing without Nelson Agholor over the last few games as well.
Even though Agholor tends to be one of the most frustrating players on the roster due to his inconsistent play, the Eagles certainly could used his presence over the last few weeks.
Take a look at last weekend’s win over the Washington Redskins for example, and how Greg Ward Jr. was technically the only wide receiver to catch a pass, as this shows just how much Philadelphia has been hurting in the department.
One can only imagine how different the circumstances would have been this season if Agholor wasn’t facing as much pressure as a result of the injuries to Jackson and Jeffery.
And while the last few weeks have made it seem like Agholor’s knee injury was only minor, it appears the situation is serious enough to the point where the Eagles are even considering the possibility of shutting the wideout down for the remainder of the season.
Keep in mind that when taking into consideration the Eagles basically need to win each of their final two games just to have a shot at winning the NFC East, if Agholor were capable of playing, chances are he would be suiting up.
But since Doug Pederson and the organization are weighing the idea of shutting Agholor down, this is a clear sign of what the receiver is actually dealing with.
Then again, as bad as it sounds to say about Agholor, with the wideout only catching 39 passes on the season in 11 games for 363 yards with three touchdowns, will his absence even make that much of a different?
Throughout his career in Philadelphia, Agholor has shown on numerous occasions that he’s better off as a No. 3 option in the passing game over being one of the top two options, as bad as that sounds.
Shutting down Agholor for the remainder of the season would obviously add to the list of frustrations surrounding the injuries to wide receiver, but also the most intriguing question is whether the Eagles have seen the last of the former first-round pick in uniform.
With Agholor’s contract officially up after this season, he is one of a few players that will be worth keeping an eye on once the offseason, and if fans had to make a guess at the moment, chances are Philadelphia will decide to move on.
