Philadelphia Eagles could suffer another major blow with Zach Ertz injury
By Dan Parzych
The Philadelphia Eagles could be in trouble once again on offense if Zach Ertz’s injury turns out to be serious.
Just when it seemed like the situation surrounding the Philadelphia Eagles couldn’t get anymore frustrating in the injury department, the team hopes to see everything turn out to be alright with star tight end Zach Ertz.
Over the last few years, Ertz has worked his way into becoming one of the top pass-catching tight ends in the NFL, and he’s easily become one of Carson Wentz‘s favorite targets in the passing game.
Even more important as of late, Wentz has found himself relying on Ertz even more with Philadelphia being down each of their top three wideouts in recent weeks, including Alshon Jeffery.
After catching three touchdowns over the previous two games, the Eagles knew they would most likely need another strong outing from Ertz in Week 16 just to have a fighting chance against the Dallas Cowboys.
But with the unfortunate trend of devastating injuries continuing after Ertz went to the locker room in the first half holding his ribs, the question now becomes how serious the injury could be.
It was clear that Ertz was hurting after suffering a brutal hit in the first quarter, and while Eagles fans are still patiently waiting for an official update, this certainly doesn’t look good for Philadelphia on offense.
No one needs to explain just how much of a difference maker Ertz is on offense when healthy, and when looking at all of the weapons Philadelphia has already been forced to adjust to playing without, another serious injury to a key player is the last thing they need to be dealing with.
Watching the Eagles find ways to win in each of the last two weeks was already incredible to witness with the group of receivers they were working with, but one can only imagine how difficult it would potentially be to win the NFC East without Ertz in the lineup.
As previously mentioned, nothing is set in stone at the moment, but with the way Ertz looked on his way to the locker room on top of the previous injuries the team has already been dealing with, this could become another unfortunate obstacle.
