Dallas Goedert stepped up for the Philadelphia Eagles when needed the most in Week 16 to help defeat the Dallas Cowboys.

With the Philadelphia Eagles already at a major disadvantage this late in the season due to all of the injuries at wide receiver, Carson Wentz was in need of all the extra help possible on offense entering the team’s Week 16 meeting with the Dallas Cowboys.

To top off all of the injury frustration, Zach Ertz received a bit of a scare in the first half of Sunday’s game as well after a rib injury sent the tight end to the locker room before eventually returning to action for the final two quarters of action.

Since Ertz was able to return, it’s safe to say that Philadelphia caught a major break since one can only imagine how much of a devastating blow it would be to lose their star tight end to an injury as well, but also the four catches for 28 yards shows the ribs were hurting.

On a positive note, at least with Ertz hurting, the Eagles were able to see their No. 2 tight end in Dallas Goedert step up in a big way by leading the receiving corps with nine catches for 91 yards to go along with a touchdown in the first quarter.

During the NFL Draft in 2018, the whole intention of Philadelphia using a second-round pick on Goedert was to provide the offense with a solid duo at tight end, and watching him shred the Cowboys’ defense with a career day shows what he can bring to the table.

Even though Goedert isn’t going to see the same amount of action as Ertz on a weekly basis, the fact that he can step up in situations like Sunday when the Eagles need him the most shows they made the right decision back in 2018.

Plus, with Goedert having numerous areas in need of improvement like most second-year players across the league, Philadelphia would love nothing more than to see this performance from Week 16 be used as a major confidence booster moving forward.

After taking down the Cowboys on Sunday, the Eagles are still going to need all of the extra help possible from players like Goedert against the New York Giants in Week 17 to make sure they finish on top of the NFC East ahead of Dallas.

Obviously, the hope is Ertz will look like his usual self when facing the Giants, but if not, at least the Eagles will feel confident in relying on Goedert again if needed in the passing game.
