Stats that prove Eagles TE Dallas Goedert is top-ten at his position
Can the Philadelphia Eagles’ second-year standout Dallas Goedert legitimately be called a top-ten tight end now? The statistics say yes!
So much attention has been paid to rookie running back Miles Sanders (and for good reason) that we sometimes tend to miss on the brilliance that we refer to as Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert. Two seasons in a row, the ‘Birds’ nailed it on second-round draft picks (the jury is still out on JJ Arcega-Whiteside), but after witnessing Dallas Goedert go off versus the Dallas Cowboys in Week 16 to the tune of nine receptions for 91 yards, there are questions about how good this guy can be.
Dare we say that he’s a top-ten tight end already? He most certainly is, and the numbers prove it.
We love stats. We just can’t help ourselves. We’re obsessed with numbers. They tell you absolutely nothing, and at the same time, they tell you everything. That’s why we love Pro Football Focus. That’s why we play Fantasy football.
We may not understand the analytics engine all of the time, but whatever it says becomes our reality. With all of that being said, if Dallas Goedert is in the top ten in the NFL among tight ends in catches (54) and touchdown receptions (nine), wouldn’t that make him a top-ten tight end, especially seeing as how he’s also 12th among tight ends in receiving yards (876) and he’s the second option at the position on his own team?
We all see the top three tight ends in the NFL as being Travis Kelce, George Kittle, and Zach Ertz. After those three, who’s on the list and what order they fall in gets cloudy depending on who you talk to.
On Sunday, in the most important game of the Eagles’ season, Goedert shined. We forget about him sometimes because of Zach Ertz’s presence and because of that fumble in the first game versus Dallas and that dropped touchdown pass versus the Detroit Lions, but all of a sudden, he’s coming along nicely.
In Sanders, we’ve learned that Philly hit the jackpot in Round 2 of the most recent draft. It appears that they didn’t do a bad job in Round 2 of 2018’s version either.
