There’s been a lot of talk about Jordan Howard. Here’s what Eagles head coach Doug Pederson had to say as we near his star running back’s return.

There’s been a lot of conversation about Jordan Howard over the course of the last six weeks, seven if you count the bye. The Philadelphia Eagles traded a 2020 sixth-round pick to the Chicago Bears for Howard’s services. At the time, it didn’t seem like too much of a risk for Doug Pederson‘s football team.

Howard’s current deal would end at the conclusion of 2019’s campaign, and if the Eagles found out by that time that things weren’t working out, there would be no need for an extension.

Sitting out of six games with a ‘stinger’ has some worried, but at the same time, his availability for Week 17’s game has some excited. Whether or not the Eagles should extend him has been a topic of conversation in the Eagles fan base.

We’re a long way from that though. In the short term, Howard’s job is to help Philly win in Week 17 and hopefully help them win a few playoff games. Still, with the long layoff, no one is expecting 20 totes versus the New York Giants.

Coach Pederson didn’t say much in a Friday presser, as you’d expect, but he did provide a little of the gameplan.

"He’s good to go. I mean, it’s good (his injury). I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily probably where he wants it to be, but it’s good. It’s good for playing. Again, we’re going to be smart about it, but we’re full steam ahead with Miles (Sanders) and Boston (Scott)."

Here’s more from Coach.

"Challenge is we’ve been planning with Miles and Boston, and Jordan gives us, obviously, a third back, (a) situational guy. We understand who he is… Again, we mentioned yesterday as far as the conditioning and the game shape and being ready, you just can’t give him a full complement of plays. We don’t want to necessarily disrupt what we have going, but he is a big piece obviously to our offense"

It sounds like a pitch count is coming. Look for Miles Sanders to start. Look for Boston Scott to play a key role. Philly’s three-headed monster is back in effect. It just seems as though it looks a little different than many of us previously expected.
