Philadelphia Eagles: Carson Wentz could make surprise history Week 17
By Dan Parzych
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz could enter the NFL history books during Week 17 with 250 passing yards against the New York Giants.
While Carson Wentz has been far from perfect at times throughout the 2019 season since the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback needs to figure out a way to overcome his fumbling issues, the argument can be made he deserves plenty of credit for keeping the team in the playoff hunt.
When looking at all of the injuries Wentz and the Eagles have been dealing with since September on offense ranging from DeSean Jackson to Alshon Jeffery, just seeing Philadelphia being one win away from winning the NFC East is huge.
The numbers on offense certainly don’t stand out like some of the other teams across the league such as the New Orleans Saints or San Francisco 49ers, but as long as the Eagles earn a trip to the playoffs by winning the division, this is all that really matters the most.
Seeing how Wentz has spent the last few weeks with younger players such as JJ Arcega-Whiteside and Greg Ward Jr. as his top targets, this adds to the list of credit the Eagles quarterback clearly deserves in regards to keep Philadelphia in the best shape possible.
In fact, Wentz could actually add his name to the history books on Sunday when facing the New York Giants if he finds a way to throw for 250 passing yards.
For a quarterback who has received all sorts of unfair criticism at times throughout the 2019 season, this would be an unbelievable accomplishment for Wentz, and help certain fans feel much better over what the future has in store on offense.
Early on in the 2019 campaign, there were plenty of critics who believed that Philadelphia made a huge mistake in the offense sticking with Wentz instead of heavily investing in Nick Foles for the long run.
Wentz obviously still has plenty to prove to show Philadelphia made the right choice, but just seeing him on the verge of this historical record of possibly throwing for 4,000 yards without having a wide receiver over 500 yards is incredible to think about.
Most importantly, if Wentz enters the record books while helping the Eagles defeat the Giants to win the NFC East title for the second time in three years, it would make this historical accomplishment even more exciting to celebrate.
