Winning is most important for these Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17, but Carson Wentz could pass Donovan McNabb in Philly’s record book along the way.

Fourth-year signal-caller Carson Wentz isn’t the greatest quarterback in Philadelphia Eagles history yet. That’s what most of us want to happen. That’s why Philly took him second overall in 2016, but he has work to do. Heck, these days, if you poll some of the Eagles fan base, they’ll tell you that title belongs to Nick Foles. After all, he brought them the Super Bowl, but for you stat guys, you already know the answer. Statistically, the best quarterback in the Eagles’ history is Donovan McNabb.

Believe it or not, that name still gets a few dirty looks from some of the Eagles contingents, but regardless of how it ended, some of the stuff he said (that really wasn’t all that bad) and lessons that were learned later (that dispute with Terrell Owens was really on ‘5’), time heals all wounds.

The further we get away from things, the more we begin to forgive what made us angry, or at least, we should. McNabb will be loved by the entire Eagles fan base one day, but occasionally, his name comes up when we mention things like the Eagles record book. It’s in those moments that we remember how brilliant he truly was. Dude needed some weapons.

On Sunday, in Week 17, the Eagles meet their old foes, the New York Giants, and a win gives them the NFC East. That’s all that’s truly important, but on the road to victory (you like that), Wentz has a chance to make some history.

If he throws for 250 yards, he’ll have 4,000 on the season. That’s without having any of his receivers tally more than 500 receiving yards. That’s not all though. Once he passes the 167 yard-mark, he’ll pass McNabb’s single-season passing yards record of 3,916, a mark set in 2008.

Priority number one is the win, but based on what we’ve seen from the Giants recently, we may need those 250 yards from Wentz. It looks like this could be a huge day for the Eagles organization.
