A historic day for Philadelphia Eagles running back Boston Scott has earned him some national attention, and ladies and gentlemen, it’s well deserved.

When Boston Scott woke up on December 29th, it’s probably safe to assume that he was already in game mode. He, no doubt, has his mind made up that he was going to play some role in a must-win Week-17 game for the Philadelphia Eagles. Everyone knew that he would give his best effort, but there was no way that anyone could expect what happened.

That isn’t because no one believed in him. After all, the Eagles had Miles Sanders, and he was going to take the bulk of the snaps at running back. Then, there was Jordan Howard. Despite missing six games with a shoulder injury, he was cleared for contact just days before Week 17’s game. We knew Howard wouldn’t play a ton of minutes, but no one thought he wouldn’t touch the ball at all.

By now, there isn’t an Eagles fan on Planet Earth that doesn’t know what happened. Sanders left the regular-season finale in the second quarter with an ankle injury and never returned. That forced Scott into action, and Philly’s third-stringer not only gave his best effort. He wound up with the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Week Award. Take a look.

Maybe it’s Thom Brennaman, the man who called this game on FOX, that said it best. Scott ran his way ‘into the hearts of Philadelphia Eagles fans for all time’. He racked up 19 carries for 54 yards, caught four passes from Carson Wentz for another 84 yards, and reached the end zone three times.

The stats don’t say enough about what he did though. He played his absolute best when his team needed him to. He stepped in when teammates went down, not only in Week 17 but throughout December. He’ll forever be remembered as one of the heroes of this game, and thanks to his efforts, Philly’s headed to the postseason. To be honest, if he didn’t win Week 17’s NFC Offensive Player of the Week Award, Eagles fans and the Philly media may have launched an investigation.
