Even though it was a long shot to happen, it looks like the Philadelphia Eagles no longer have to worry about Mike Zimmer possibly joining the NFC East with the Dallas Cowboys.

Over the last week or so, the Philadelphia Eagles have been reminded just how lucky they are to have Doug Pederson since they happen to be the only team within the division that hasn’t been dealing with issues at head coach.

Technically, the Dallas Cowboys are still trying to figure out their situation with Jason Garrett, but when seeing how the Washington Redskins (hired Ron Rivera) and New York Giants (fired Pat Shurmur), this shows how great the Eagles have it.

As for the situation in Dallas, it’s sort of amazing to take into consideration the playoffs are about to officially get underway, and the team seems nowhere close to figuring out what to do about Garrett.

After the Cowboys failed to take advantage of a banged-up Eagles squad, it seemed like Garrett was a lock to be out of a job. And while this could still very well end up being the case, it’s beyond surprising to see Wild Card Weekend arrive without a decision by the Cowboys.

If Dallas does end up deciding to move on from Garrett, the good news for the Cowboys is there are plenty of candidates that would love to take that job in a heartbeat.

But unfortunately, there is one name that can officially be ruled out of the running, which is Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer.

First off, let the record show the whole Zimmer scenario was always considered a long shot to happen, and only discussed due to his previous ties to the Cowboys from back in the day when he helped coach the defensive side of the football.

Despite the Vikings currently preparing for their Wild Card battle with the New Orleans Saints, there’s been some talk over whether Minnesota would move on from him as their head coach if the team comes up short this weekend.

While Zimmer certainly deserves a ton of credit for some of the work put in over the years, it’s no secret there’s also been plenty of frustration over missed opportunities by Minnesota to earn trips to the Super Bowl, despite talented teams to work with.

Plenty could still change over the next few days depending on how Sunday goes, but the statement by Vikings owner Mark Wilf makes it seem pretty clear that any long-term shot at Dallas landing Zimmer can officially be thrown out the window.

Either way, no matter what the Cowboys end up deciding, at least the Eagles will still be in great shape with Pederson heading into 2020 as the one head coach arguably facing the least amount of pressure.
