Philadelphia Eagles: Marvin Lewis coaching Cowboys would be amazing
By Dan Parzych
Marvin Lewis drawing interest from the Dallas Cowboys almost seems too good to be true for the Philadelphia Eagles.
While the Philadelphia Eagles continue to be the only team from the NFC East not dealing with head coaching changes, it looks like the Dallas Cowboys may be interested in a surprise candidate in Marvin Lewis.
Even though the Cowboys have yet to provide an official update on Jason Garrett despite numerous meetings, Dallas appears to have already started the process of finding a new head coach for the 2020 season.
Hearing the news that Mike McCarthy would be interviewing for the position on Saturday really wasn’t that much of a surprise since the former Green Bay Packers head coach has been expressing interest from numerous teams.
But when it comes to the interest in Lewis, this came as a major surprise due to his track record with the Cincinnati Bengals all those years.
After 16 years as head coach of the Bengals, the two parties decided to finally part ways after the 2018 season. And while there were certainly plenty of great moments during his tenure, the fact that Lewis failed to win a single playoff game in all that time was beyond frustrating.
Most head coaches in Lewis’ situation would have lost their job a long time ago, but for reasons that are difficult to explain, Cincinnati kept their former head coach around all those years, despite his 0-7 career payoff record.
As bad as it sounds, the time Lewis spent with the Bengals made it pretty clear that he isn’t exactly the best candidate for a head coach in the NFL, which is why this sudden interest by the Cowboys has Eagles fans smiling over the possibility.
If Dallas failed to reach a Super Bowl all these years under Garrett despite having numerous talented teams to work with, what makes the Cowboys believe Lewis would have what it takes?
Even if nothing is set in stone since it was just an interview, just the fact that Lewis is earning consideration seems laughable at this point.
Talent wise, the Cowboys seem like they’re going to continue being a legitimate threat in the NFC East for years to come, but if Lewis were to be the one calling the shots in 2020, that threat would be downgraded in a big way.
