Philadelphia Eagles: 5 tough decisions for 2020 offseason
By Dan Parzych
3. Are Eagles better off without Howard?
Acquiring Jordan Howard from the Chicago Bears last offseason was basically a steal for the Eagles to provide another effective weapon to work with on offense, and the running back was a great compliment playing alongside rookie Miles Sanders.
With that being said, the last few months have been a major mystery in regards to Howard since what seemed like a minor shoulder injury at first resulted in him missing six games for Philadelphia.
Even when Howard was technically healthy enough to return, the Eagles didn’t use him for a single carry in Week 17 or the playoff game against the Seahawks.
Does this mean Howard’s shoulder was more of an issue than Philadelphia was leading on?
Whatever the reason behind the decision not to use Howard more over the final two games, at least one thing is certain, which is the Eagles can afford to move on from the running back if they really wanted to.
Between Sanders proving he can handle the responsibilities of a No. 1 running back to Boston Scott emerging out of nowhere over the last few weeks, Philadelphia could actually save a bit of money if they were to move on from Howard.
But also, as a result of his stock going down over the last few months due to the shoulder injury, maybe the Eagles could even land Howard at a favorable price for 2020, just to provide an extra weapon to work with moving forward.
