3 Reasons for and against Philadelphia Eagles re-signing Malcolm Jenkins
2. Addition by subtraction
As mentioned, this Eagles team has a ton of holes, and they’ve got a ton of money tied up in those a lot of their older players. In 2020, Philadelphia’s top two receivers will be two injury-prone veterans who will both be over the age of 30, DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery.
Not only that, they’ll both be making over $10 million apiece. The Eagles need depth along the offensive line, the defensive line, at cornerback, at wide receiver, and at running back.
Not only that, if Jenkins walks, they’re going to need a safety (or two). As hard as this may be to believe, ’27’ may fall victim to the numbers game. This may be a case of addition by subtraction. Sometimes, you have to shed one salary to add a few more, and shedding the healthy cap number that’s represented by Jenkins may allow Philly to fill one, if not two, areas of need.
