Philadelphia Eagles Jim Schwartz one of 3 Browns candidates, 3 reactions
Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz is among three new coaching candidates for the Cleveland Browns vacancy.
He’s always the subject of a firestorm in the Philadelphia Eagles fan base, but the ‘Birds’ aren’t nearly as successful over the past four seasons as they have been if their defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz isn’t a part of the process. The Cleveland Browns have requested the right to grant him an interview for their vacant head coaching position.
Let’s not waste a ton of time. Here are three thoughts on the news.
1. It’s going to be a busy three days in Cleveland.
Per a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Cleveland’s got interviews with some very impressive candidates scheduled. Schwartz is set to meet with the team on Wednesday. Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski will meet with the team on Thursday. On Friday, they host Josh McDaniels of the New England Patriots.
2. Here’s who the Browns have already interviewed.
Cleveland’s already interviewed Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, Robert Selah of the San Francisco 49ers and Greg Roman, currently the offensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens. There doesn’t seem to be any real buzz around either one of those three.
3. The future for both Cleveland and Philly is cloudy.
Schefter’s report also indicates that the Browns hope to have made a decision by Saturday. Based on the choices it seems as though they may be leaning towards an offensive-minded head coach, but who knows what they’re thinking. From an Eagles standpoint, you have to ask another question.
What are the Philadelphia Eagles going to do to replace Jim Schwartz if he leaves? You could argue that there isn’t a viable option on their current coaching staff, but who knows? We’ve all been wrong about these things a time or two in the past.
