Darren Sproles’ final season with the Philadelphia Eagles wasn’t anywhere close to being a failure. Philly’s got two talented running backs to build around, and you can thank ’43’ for that.

All Philadelphia Eagles fans wanted was to see was one final run at the prize with their veterans on the field to enjoy it with their teammates. Yes, hoisting that trophy for the first time wiped out decades of frustration for their fans, but we all wanted a title run with the likes of Jason Peters, Carson Wentz, and Darren Sproles play keying roles.

Isn’t that partially why we kept bringing Sproles and ‘The Bodyguard’ back in the first place?

For ’43’, the 2017 season ended on the same day that Jake Elliott booted that game-winner to get things started. A season later, Sproles missed a lot of time early before returning late, but Philly’s run towards a second title ended in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, the same venue that Sproles shined in for three seasons.

2019 was supposed to be the year. One last run with the old guys sounded good, but the Eagles didn’t even make it out of the Wild card Round this time. Everyone’s disappointed, but don’t call Sproles last season in Eagles green a failure. Philly’s got two young stable backs to build around (and a third if they choose to keep Jordan Howard). ’43’ deserves some of the credit for that.

Let’s take a look at both Miles Sanders and Boston Scott.
