5 Philadelphia Eagles options at DC if Jim Schwartz isn’t back in 2020
Joe Woods, 49ers defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator
Joe Woods isn’t a bad idea either. He has a Super Bowl pedigree, having won the 50th as a member of the Denver Broncos. At that time, he was the defensive backs coach, but he eventually took over as the team’s defensive coordinator in 2017 and worked in that role for two seasons.
Currently, things are going pretty well for him as he’s a member of the San Francisco 49ers. He’s currently doing double-duty there as their defensive backs coach and their passing game coordinator. Well with that being said, we can guarantee two things. One, he’s a multi-tasker, and second, looking at the Niners’ passing attack and defensive backs, he seems to be doing a good job on both ends.
If he’s looking to streamline that at all, Philly might be in the market to fill their defensive coordinator depending on what the Browns’ decision is.
Honorable mention: Kris Richard, Rex Ryan
Kris Richard cut his teeth as the defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys, and for the most part, he’s done a good job. His contract is up however and we know the Cowboys are giving the coordinator’s role to Mike Nolan. Would the Eagles hire a former Cowboy? If not, Rex Ryan, the son of former Eagles coach Buddy Ryan, has also expressed interest in returning.
