Philadelphia Eagles: Josh McCown gave it all playing with torn hamstring
By Dan Parzych
Josh McCown reportedly played Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks for the Philadelphia Eagles with a torn hamstring, and will now have surgery.
Just when it seemed like the injury bug couldn’t catch up with the Philadelphia Eagles even more since there season is already over, it appears Josh McCown added a new twist to the situation.
After Carson Wentz was forced to leave Sunday’s playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks with a head injury, McCown stepped up for the Eagles on offense, which was actually pretty cool in a way since it was the veteran’s first career playoff action since joining the NFL in 2002.
All things considered, McCown completing 18 of 24 passes for 174 yards with a banged-up offense wasn’t all that bad for the veteran quarterback.
Any other season, the results of Sunday would be viewed as a major disappointment, but when looking at everything that Philadelphia had to overcome this year in the injury department, it was just amazing to even see the team in the position as NFC East champions.
Back to McCown, Eagles fans were already appreciative for everything the veteran quarterback did throughout the 2019 season since Philadelphia originally convinced him to come out of retirement when Nate Sudfeld got hurt in the preseason.
And with the surprising news emerging on Friday that McCown played through Sunday’s loss with a torn hamstring, Eagles fans should love the quarterback even more for giving it all to put Philadelphia in the best position to compete with Seattle.
First off, one can only imagine the kind of pain McCown was feeling after the game since just reading the description sounds painful enough.
Not to mention, when seeing all of the emotions surrounding McCown after the game ranging from the injury to finally being able to participate in the playoffs for the first time, this all makes even more sense now.
Even though McCown was only with the team for one year, and is likely heading towards retirement since this was the original plan before the Eagles called him back in August, this single performance alone will always make Philadelphia fans feel appreciative towards the quarterback.
Plus, for all fans know, McCown could even come on board in some sort of coaching role down the road since there’s been some talk about how great of a quarterbacks coach he would make, but since this is all talk for now, here’s to hoping surgery goes well.
