He’s already failed twice as an OC.

There’s an old saying that goes ‘Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.’ As mentioned, DeFilippo worked wonders as Philly’s quarterbacks coach. That led to an opportunity as the Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator, one he was fired from before completing an entire season.

He’d land on his feet with the Jags in 2019, where he was, ironically, reunited with Nick Foles. Jacksonville was among the worst teams in the NFL offensively, and though there were flashes from Gardner Minshew, it became apparent that any hope for the Jags’ future was going to have to be found in Jacksonville finding someone else to play quarterback and finding someone else to lead the offense.

Maybe DeFilippo isn’t an offensive coordinator. Maybe he’s just a very good quarterbacks coach. There’s nothing wrong with that if that’s the case, but Philly can’t afford to make the wrong decision here, not with so many available options that are proven winners in that role, Jim Caldwell for instance.

A reunion between Wentz and DeFilippo sounds awesome, but it may only work if he’s a quarterbacks coach, a role that’s already occupied by Press Taylor. We’ll all be watching this one closely. Philly should be making a decision soon.
