Even though most of our football careers ended when we graduated from high school, the one thing that we can all agree on is there is a brotherhood and a comradery that goes with being a member of a team. Most of us can only imagine what it’s like to be a member of a professional franchise’s fraternity, especially one with as much history as the Philadelphia Eagles, or a member of an even more exclusive fraternity, the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Now, Carmichael has been given the nod by receiving an honor that most would agree should have been his a long time ago, but good things come to those who wait.
His football resume is the stuff of legend. He’s the franchise’s all-time record holder for receptions, receiving yards, and touchdown passes. He’s a member of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
Not only that, he’s a member of the Florida Sports Hall of Fame, the Southwest Athletic Conference Hall of Fame, the Black College Football Hall of Fame, the NFL 1970s All-Decade Team, the Philadelphia Eagles 75th-anniversary team, the Eagles Hall of Fame, and, now, the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s centennial class. Sometimes, nice guys do finish first.
