Watch this speech by Philadelphia Eagles legend Brian Dawkins
This speech by Brian Dawkins is just one more example of why Philadelphia Eagles fans love him so much.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, he hasn’t lost his touch. There isn’t a Philadelphia Eagles fan on Planet Earth that isn’t aware of Brian Dawkins‘ leadership, his love for the ‘City of Brotherly Love’, and his love for ‘Birds’ fans who are all over this country.
If you’ve seen any of NFL Films‘ successful attempts to catch him on camera, you’ve been watching clips of him rallying his teammates for years. On January the 17th, shortly before dinnertime on the East Coast, he did the same for some Philadelphia Phillies prospects.
Take a look at this.
Sure, he’s talking to a baseball team, but does anyone else feel like throwing on some shoulder pads and running over somebody?
From the 1996 NFL season until the one we all watched in 2008, Eagles fans all over the country were wowed by the man with a million nicknames (‘Dawk’, ‘Wolverine’, Weapon X’ being some of the most popular), and though he hasn’t been on a football field since we all had to digest the idea of seeing him in a Denver Broncos jersey from 2009 until 2011, ‘Dawk’ is still the most beloved Eagle of all time by quite a few members of the fan base.
After nine Pro Bowl nods (1999, 2001, 2002, 2004–2006, 2008, 2009, 2011), four First-team All-Pro nods (2001, 2002, 2004, 2006), and after being named as a member of the NFL 2000s All-Decade Team, the Philadelphia Eagles Hall of Fame, and having his number 20 jersey retired, Dawkins finally got that elusive Super Bowl ring in 2018.
He served as an Executive of football operations for player development with the ‘Birds’ from 2016 until 2017. Earlier this week rumors circulated of him being added to the Eagles coaching staff as their defensive backs coach. Those stories weren’t verified by any credible Since then, the tweets and posts have disappeared, but is there anyone who believes ‘Weapon X’ couldn’t do the job?
You’d be hard-pressed to find any Eagles fan that wouldn’t support his hiring. It would be even harder to find any Eagles player that wouldn’t listen to what he’d have to say. We’re all pretty sure he learned something from Andy Reid and the late Jim Johnson, and as you can see, nobody can motivate a room like ‘Dawk’.
