Boston Scott, like Ward, started this season on the Eagles’ practice squad, with little in-game experience. After being drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft and spending a short stint on their practice squad, Scott would eventually make his way over to Philadelphia’s practice squad.
In the 2018-19 season, he only saw action in two games, contributing on special teams for a handful of kick returns. Therefore it’s understandable as to why there was little expectation that he’d contribute in the manner that he did. Scott would get his shot as injuries would ravage the Eagles skill position options.
Scott was promoted to the active roster in mid-October, and the coaches began to integrate him into the Eagles offense. He scored his first NFL touchdown against the Buffalo Bills in Week 8, but the new guy’s support grew louder following a booming performance in Week 14 where Scott contributed to a much-needed win with 59 rushing yards and 69 receiving yards, four first downs, and a trip to the end zone versus the New York Giants.
Scott’s involvement in the offense continued to grow as the regular season drew to a close, culminating in a spectacular three-touchdown performance in week 17 against those same Giants. He ended the regular season with 245 rushing yards, 204 yards receiving, and five total touchdowns.
This young standout perfectly epitomizes the sort of talent that Philly desperately needs to nurture, advance, and keep in the midnight green for as long as possible. As a team that has had its issues with injuries to aging players, grooming a young Scott to work effectively in tandem with Sanders will be critical to carry the momentum of the Eagles’ running game in the future. ‘Birds; fans can’t wait to see what happens going forward.
