An awful Philadelphia Eagles trade that no one talks about anymore

In watching 2020’s version of the AFC Championship Game, Philadelphia Eagles fans were reminded of one of the worst trades in recent franchise history.

With no Philadelphia Eagles playoff football to watch, ‘Birds’ fans all over the country congregated around televisions sets at sports bars and in the comfort of their own homes in hopes of watching ‘Big Red’ aka Andy Reid to see if he can take LeSean McCoy and the rest of his Kansas City Chiefs team to the Super Bowl.

Then, they were reminded of one of the worst trades in recent team history.

Take a look at this one.

Now, on the surface that doesn’t look like much, but while much of the conversation from Jim Nantz and Tony Romo centered around Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel‘s playing days with the New England Patriots (and him catching a touchdown pass from Tom Brady on a trick play in Super Bowl XXXIX versus Andy Reid’s Eagles), die-hard ‘Birds’ fans were reminded of something more recent.

Yes, that’s the same Dennis Kelly that the Eagles traded to Tennessee in exchange for Dorial Green-Beckham.

You see, back in 2016, the ‘Birds’ had an idea. In all honesty, it wasn’t a bad one at the time. Philly would give up a reserve lineman, and they’d get a potential playmaker at wide receiver for their rookie quarterback Carson Wentz.

Tennessee was ready to part ways with the man they spent the 40th-overall selection on in the 2015 NFL Draft. Philadelphia took a chance. Maybe ‘DGB’ had something left in the tank. Maybe new scenery would give him life. They were wrong on both counts.

Not only was Green-Beckham finished. He caught a grand total of 36 passes on 74 targets for 392 yards and two touchdowns in an Eagles jersey (15 games with seven starts). He’s no longer in the league.

Sure, the deal didn’t affect Philly too much. They had already added Brandon Brooks about five months earlier, and they drafted the versatile Isaac Seumalo in Round 3 of that year’s selection meeting. Still, thinking about the failures of the ‘DGB’ trade and seeing that Dennis Kelly is STILL playing well and contributing to the Titans makes one shake his or her head.

Oh, and by the way, Kelly’s caught two touchdown passes in his NFL career, the same number of TD receptions Dorial Green-Beckham caught for Philly.
