Philadelphia Eagles: Jim Caldwell not returning to Dolphins worth following
By Dan Parzych
With the news that Jim Caldwell won’t be back with the Miami Dolphins in 2020, could the Philadelphia Eagles express interest in him becoming their next offensive coordinator?
Over the last few weeks, there have been plenty of names linked to the Philadelphia Eagles as far as potential next offensive coordinator is concerned, one of which happened to be Jim Caldwell.
As bad as it sounds, the previous decision by the Eagles to move on from Mike Groh shortly after Philadelphia’s playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks was the right one since the offense didn’t exactly live up to the hype this past season.
Even if the argument can be made that Philadelphia deserves some benefit of the doubt due to all the injuries the Eagles dealt with on offense, Groh never really seemed like the best option to begin with.
Philadelphia has been taking their sweet old time over the last few weeks in regards to finding a replacement at offensive coordinator.
And while Caldwell’s name has been thrown out on numerous occasions, the chances of this happening wasn’t taken as seriously until recently now that it became official he wouldn’t be returning to the Miami Dolphins for the 2020 season.
Unfortunately, health issues prevented Caldwell from actually working with the Dolphins coaching staff in 2019, meaning he never actually got to work with the team as a coach.
But now that Caldwell is officially available, this seems like a candidate worth keeping an eye on for the Eagles due to his previous coaching experience alone on top of the kind of impact he could make on Philadelphia’s offense.
Things may not have previously worked out for Caldwell with the Indianapolis Colts and Detroit Lions when he was their head coach, but this shouldn’t prevent the Eagles from considering the possibility of making him the team’s next offensive coordinator.
If anything, Philadelphia should feel confident in the fact that Caldwell would be facing less pressure, and the potential surrounding the chance to work with Doug Pederson to help the Eagles remain a top contender for a fourth year in a row.
Sooner or later, the Eagles will need to make a decision for their next offensive coordinator since it’s already taken longer than most fans expected, but if Caldwell does end up getting the job now that he’s out in Miami, it may end up being worth the wait.
