Philadelphia Eagles: Chris Harris would be great addition at cornerback
By Dan Parzych
The Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly expected to go after Chris Harris during free agency to help fill their need at cornerback.
Leading up to the trade deadline in October, one name that was previously linked to the Philadelphia Eagles was cornerback Chris Harris.
With all of the injuries and inconsistency at the position, it was easy to understand why a team like the Eagles would express interest in a cornerback like Harris, especially if his presence would put Philadelphia in better position to win the NFC East title.
Even though nothing would end up happening before the deadline, and the Eagles would eventually go on to win the division title anyway, Harris is now set to hit free agency after spending the last nine years as a member of the Denver Broncos.
Rightfully so, numerous teams in need of help at cornerback will be doing whatever they can to convince Harris to come on board for the 2019 season.
But based off a recent report from Tony Pauline, it appears that Philadelphia is going to push hard to sign Harris, which would obviously at cornerback in a big way.
Sure, Eagles fans have plenty of reasons to be excited about the team’s interest in Byron Jones as well, but since there was already previous talk surrounding Harris before this past season’s trade deadline, this should take the excitement about the possibility to new levels.
Prior to 2019, Harris was making a strong case to be considered a top cornerback in the league by earning trips to the Pro Bowl in four of the last five seasons.
Better yet, the fact that Harris is already a Super Bowl champion from his time with the Broncos, and know what it takes to handle the pressure come playoff time could also benefit some of the younger cornerbacks moving forward, such as Sidney Jones or Avonte Maddox.
Since Philadelphia isn’t even technically allowed to speak with Jones at the moment since the start of the free agency period is still a bit away, no one should expect any sort of moves to happen anytime soon.
However, if Eagles fans are looking for a positive factor over the situation, the one thing they should be excited about is how Philadelphia already seems to be putting together some sort of plan to solve their issues at cornerback that were on in display throughout 2019.
