Philadelphia Eagles fans shouldn’t feel upset over missing out on Jay Gruden after the former Washington Redskins head coach recently took a job with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

While the search continues for the Philadelphia Eagles to find a new offensive coordinator for the 2020 season, it looks like one name can officially be ruled out, which would be Jay Gruden.

Even though the Eagles didn’t exactly express interest in the former Washington Redskins head coach, there was certainly plenty of discussion over whether Gruden would be a good fit at offensive coordinator since Philadelphia is still looking for a replacement to Mike Groh.

Things may not have worked out for Gruden in Washington, but part of the reason behind the discussion over the possibility of him joining the Eagles was due to his previous work as offensive coordinator with the Cincinnati Bengals.

It may be difficult to remember, but Gruden’s previous success with the Bengals from 2011-13 was basically the reason he was able to land a job with the Redskins prior to the 2014 season.

But now that Gruden is officially off the market after taking the offensive coordinator job with the Jacksonville Jaguars this week, it looks like the search will have to continue for Philadelphia to help fill the opening.

Some Eagles fans may feel some sort of disappointment over Gruden ending up in Jacksonville since he seemed like a potential great fit to Doug Pederson‘s squad, but at the end of the day, this seems like the best for both parties.

For starters, as great as it was to see Gruden find success in Cincinnati during those three years, the almost six seasons spent with the Redskins were far from impressive, and could easily be viewed as reasons for concern.

The fact that Gruden only led the Redskins to one playoff appearance during his tenure in Washington is just one of many reasons as to why this didn’t work out between the two parties.

If anything, the fans feeling out the Eagles missed out on Gruden are most likely just dealing with the frustration over how long it has taken Philadelphia to find a replacement since it’s been no secret the NFC East champions have been taking their sweet time in the process.

Sooner or later, Philadelphia will obviously need to hire someone, but at least for now, there should be some relief over Gruden being ruled out after taking the job in Jacksonville.
