An extension for Halapoulivaati Vaitai is one of those things that has to find its way onto the Philadelphia Eagles list of priorities during the 2020 offseason.

The beauty of watching and covering an NFL team is the fact that we’re all allowed to change our minds at the drop of a hat. If you’re the Philadelphia Eagles or any other franchise, there isn’t much of the same wiggle room. Prior to the 2019 season, there were narratives that Philly should trade Halapoulivaati Vaitai.

Then, as Jason Peters struggled and Lane Johnson got hurt towards the end of the year, everyone was glad that he was un the fold. Hindsight is always seen in 20-20 vision, but hindsight isn’t a luxury that NFL teams have.

If a franchise drafts the wrong guy early, they’re stuck in most cases. If they sign the wrong free agent, they’re also stuck. There’s no reset button like you have on your PlayStations or Xboxes. You can’t simply scroll over to the ‘exit this game’ option and start over. When teams draft a guy, it’s hard to undo any mistakes that have been made, and bringing the wrong prospect in whether that be in the draft or free agency might set the franchise back for a few years.

Drafts are a crapshoot. The free agency period is the same thing, but some things are certain. Here’s something that we all should have learned by now. ‘Big V’ is better than we give him credit for being, and one of Philly’s priorities in the offseason needs to be locking him up with an extension. Here’s why.
