Brandon Brooks is given an all-time snub by the NFL Honors committee and voters.

The Achilles tendon connects the calf muscle to the heel bone. Many of us have been fortunate to be able to say that we’ve never torn ours, but we could probably also agree that any damage to this particular tendon would wreck someone’s chances of playing football. On January 13th of 2019, the Philadelphia Eagles and their fans had to watch helplessly as their All-Pro right guard Brandon Brooks was carted off of the field at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans during the NFC Divisional Round Playoffs after tearing his.

Philly’s hopes of a second straight appearance in the NFC Championship Game died on that day as they lost by six points, but the major story that came out of that one was whether or not Brooks would be okay.

Now, if you use available search tools like Google, you’ll get all kinds of conflicting reports about how long the recovery time from a torn Achilles tendon should be, but here’s something that you’ll see a lot. It often takes a year or more to completely heal after surgery is complete even if no football is involved.

Brandon Brooks worked his way back into playing shape in eight months and was back on the playing field by the time the Eagles played in their season opener versus the Washington Redskins on September 8th. He was on the field for 73 percent of the offensive snaps in that game before playing every down in 13 of the next 15 games.

He was voted to the Pro Bowl for the third straight season, and yet at the most recent NFL honors, the league saw fit to give the Comeback Player of the Year Award to Ryan Tannehill.

No disrespect to Mr. Tannehill, but he had no major injuries to speak of in 2018 or 2019. He simply lost his job to a better quarterback as a member of the Miami Dolphins, got traded, and had to wait on the Tennessee Titans‘ decision to bench of Marcus Mariota before he got back on the playing field.

This isn’t meant to sound crass, but you read the part about Brooks tearing his Achilles, coming back eight months later, an playing his butt off en route to a Pro Bowl nod, right? Seriously, did we all miss something?
