Troy Dye, Oregon

Jim Schwartz loves using his nickel and sub-packages in passing situations, and Troy Dye out of Oregon could be the perfect fit for Schwartz’s scheme.

Dye’s clear strength is in pass coverage and in rushing the passer. He recorded one interception and 6.5 sacks in 2019. He diagnoses the run and pass very well and does a great job at sifting through traffic to find the ball carrier. His athleticism and sideline-to-sideline pursuit is reminiscent of Dallas Cowboys linebacker Leighton Vander Esch.

His awareness in pass coverage is stellar as well as his ability to carry a tight end on seam routes. He’s a prototypical sub linebacker and would fit perfectly into what Schwartz likes to do.

Like Brooks, Dye also has trouble taking on blockers in the run game, mostly because of his skinny frame. Weighing in at just 225 pounds, Dye will need to put on some mass to reach his full potential in the NFL. At the very least, he would be a great special teams ace in his rookie season while he attempts to put on some extra muscle.

Dye is projected to be a third or fourth-round pick, so keep an eye on this Oregon product as the draft moves into its second or third day.
