3 UTR linebackers Philadelphia Eagles should target in NFL Draft
By Brian Cass
David Woodward, Utah State
David Woodward out of Utah State may be a bit of a project at the next level, but with his work ethic and high motor, he could certainly make an impact with good coaching.
While he’s not the most athletic or gifted prospect that you’ll come across, he’s still stout against the run and efficient in pass coverage. He was a tackling machine at the collegiate level, racking up 252 total tackles during his three-year career, with 134 of them coming in his sophomore campaign alone.
Woodward is a great prospect with a ton of upside, but his game has its limitations. He’s going to make someone’s roster, but he’ll probably do so as a contributor on special teams.
He’s not very versatile, so he’ll have to stick it out as a weakside linebacker for the time being. His lack of versatility could be a turnoff for a team like the Eagles because they value that trait so highly. Still, if the team that drafts him is patient and provides him with the right coaching, he could develop into a solid three-down linebacker for this unit.
He’ll certainly be available when Philly’s on the clock with one of their three selections in the fourth round, so watch out for Woodward once the final day of the draft rolls around.
