NFL expert says Dak’s loss to Philadelphia Eagles caused tag discussions
Did Dak’s collapse versus the Philadelphia Eagles influence the Cowboys’ decision to place the franchise tag on their star quarterback? One NFL expert seems to think so.
Another month passes, and that Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys rivalry rolls on. Twice annually, these two proud franchises battle on the NFL gridiron. Several times an hour, their fans attack one another on social media but rarely do we see a situation where wins and losses result in a direct impact on pay structure for the players who don the jerseys of both franchises.
Or do we? Is it out of the realm of possibility that this is exactly what we’re seeing in Texas?
Prior to 2019’s regular season, Dak Prescott and Dallas were in discussions for an extension. Dallas had one number in mind. Dak was thinking of another number, a higher number. Nothing was signed, and Dak decided to bank on himself. He decided he’d go out and prove he deserved that higher number. Well, all of you know what happened next.
Dallas, seen as a Super Bowl favorite to some, failed to qualify for the postseason. That was thanks in large part to an inability to beat the better teams on their schedule. Now, it appears Dallas is interested in going the route of placing the franchise tag on Prescott.
That’s led to questions. Do they believe in him? Are they simply franchising him to give themselves time to work out a new deal? Might he be traded? The theories are all over the place. Recently, FOX Sports’ Colin Cowherd offered his theory. He believes Prescott’s poor performance versus the Eagles in a late-season contest, one that would help decide the winner of the NFC East, led to Dallas’ decision. Take a look at this one.
Colin Cowherd is a longtime legend of the genre of sports talk radio, and over the years, he’s angered fans in both Dallas and Philly, but everyone listens because the guy makes sense. Love him or hate him, he hit the nail on the head here.
It’s only February, and there’s a long way to go. Heck, it’s going to be a while before we hit the free agency period, but as of now, Dak Prescott doesn’t have a long-term extension in front of him. He may not show up to camp if Dallas doesn’t give him one, and Eagles fans are smiling all over the country because disfunction in the Cowboys’ stable continues.
