We were told the Philadelphia Eagles would announce several coaching changes by weeks end, and on Thursday, they made good on that promise.

A long waiting period has finally brought us to our desired destination. Change has come for the Philadelphia Eagles as they’ve announced several staff changes in the coaching ranks. Press Taylor gets more responsibility, and seven new faces will do their best to help usher in another division title for the Eagles in 2020 and hopefully, a trip to Tampa in February of 2021.

Let’s not waste a ton of time. Here are three immediate thoughts on the news.

1. First, let’s talk about the new guys and what they’ll be doing.

Press Taylor is no longer just the Eagles quarterbacks coach. He’s added the title of passing game coordinator to his resume. Philly’s also added seven new faces to the team.

They include Rich Scangarello. He’s a senior offensive assistant. Matt Burke will handle double duty as a run game coordinator and as a defensive line coach. As expected Marquand Manuel is the defensive backs coach. Andrew Breiner is the passing game analyst.

T.J. Paganetti is the assistant running game coordinator and assistant running backs coach. Dino Vasso is an assistant coordinator on defense, and we learned earlier on the same day Philly announced these changes that Aaron Moorehead is the team’s wide receivers coach

2. Really? No offensive coordinator?

There’s no way to defend this decision. It isn’t cutting edge. It isn’t a wrinkle that other teams will begin to emulate. It’s simply a bad idea. Doug Pederson doesn’t call games very well, and he needs someone else to assume that duty.

We all may need to realize if we haven’t already that ‘good old Doug’ is just a tad too stubborn for his own good. Let’s say it all together. This is an insanely stupid idea.

3. No one’s pumped.

Perhaps getting younger and more fresh applied to the roster only. We have a collection of retreads, question marks, and guys who have failed in other opportunities that were given to them.

Some of the names are exciting. It will be interesting to see what Aaron Moorehead does as Philly’s wide receivers coach, but on the surface, this appears to be a list that has no sizzle whatsoever. Philly needed to infuse some energy with these hires and to be honest, it’s hard to get excited about anyone on this list. Come on. Why is Matt Burke coaching on offense and defense?
