3 potential free agent targets for Eagles from Saints in 2020
By Dan Parzych
1. Eli Apple
Rightfully so, expectations were high surrounding Eli Apple back in 2016 when the New York Giants decided to use a first-round pick on the former Ohio State star, but this doesn’t mean the cornerback still can’t be a great fit on a team in need help at the position.
With the Saints making the decision last May to decline the fifth-year option on Apple’s contract, this would make it seem like New Orleans will have no issue moving on from him in the offseason.
Even if the argument can be made that Apple did start 15 games for the Saints in 2019, and could still bring plenty to the table, his asking price could very well come into play here.
This doesn’t necessarily mean the Eagles should be breaking the bank to sign Apple, but if they could find a way to sign him at the right price, this could be helpful on defense.
After three years, early signs point to Philadelphia finally moving on from Ronald Darby since the cornerback has struggled to stay healthy, and there’s even the chance of Jalen Mills ending up elsewhere.
Apple certainly hasn’t lived up to the hype over the years, but for all the Eagles know, a fresh start on a third NFL team could be the trick to help him reach the necessary level.
