. . . J.R. Reed, safety. . player. 814

It’s actually kind of interesting that the Philadelphia Eagles safety position isn’t being discussed more this offseason. Sure, Malcolm Jenkins isn’t walking into free agency yet, but he has stated that he won’t play in 2020 with his contract being constructed as it currently is.

Rodney McLeod‘s situation is different. He has the ability to walk and sign with someone else. Together, this has been one of the best duos in the league at their position. Behind them, the Eagles have Marcus Epps and Rudy Ford (who wound up on the IR last season).

Jenkins never gets hurt, but that doesn’t mean that it can’t happen, and this Eagles team is one injury away from having a desperate position at safety, seeing as how they refuse to move Rasul Douglas back there.

Taking one in the mid-rounds or late in April’s selection will remedy that some, although Philly’s shown a propensity to screw up the selections they’ve made at that position. With that being said, no one is bubbling with confidence that they’ll nail any selection that they make whether that be at the aforementioned safety position or with any of their late-round picks that they make to improve any spot on the roster.

J.R. Reed is as good a prospect as any, and he’s seen as a third or fourth-rounder. He’s six-foot-one. He weighs 194 pounds, and in 2019, he racked up 54 tackles, an interception, and seven pass breakups.
