Philadelphia Eagles should consider prove-it deal for Demarcus Robinson
By Dan Parzych
With the start of free agency right around the corner, one name worth keeping an eye on for the Philadelphia Eagles could be Demarcus Robinson from the Kansas City Chiefs.
From now until the middle of March, there will most likely be plenty of speculation over which wide receivers the Philadelphia Eagles should strongly pursue, one of which happens to be Demarcus Robinson from the Kansas City Chiefs.
Believe it or not, the Eagles previously expressed interest in the Chiefs speedster back in 2016 during the draft before Kansas City selected Robinson in the fourth round following an impressive career at Florida.
Looking back, there was obviously no way for Philadelphia to know what Robinson would be capable at the NFL level, meaning an earlier selection could arguably have been viewed as risky.
But when looking at the progress Robinson has made over the last two seasons in helping the Chiefs’ offense emerge as one of the best in the league, it’s safe to say there may be some regret by the Eagles over their previous draft choices in 2016.
With that being said, just because Philadelphia missed out on Robinson four years ago doesn’t mean they shouldn’t rule out the chances of landing the wideout in free agency, as he is already reportedly on the team’s “wish list” this offseason.
The 32 catches for 449 yards (career highs) with four touchdowns recorded by Robinson may not seem like the biggest deal in the world, but also keep in mind these numbers came playing in a crowded offense loaded with numerous threats such as Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce.
If Robinson were to join a team like the Eagles with their uncertainty at wide receiver heading into the 2020 season, chances are he would find a way to set career highs once again next year as a result of taking on a larger role for Philadelphia’s offense.
Of course, there’s always the possibility that Kansas City manages to convince Robinson to return for a fifth season with the team to help put them in better position to repeat as Super Bowl champions, but also if the Eagles truly want him, anything seems possible at this point.
One of best parts about this time of year is all the speculation over certain players possibly joining teams, and for all Philadelphia knows, the right offer at a fair price could be enough to convince Robinson to come on board for 2020.
In fact, when seeing how Robinson’s numbers are nowhere near some of the other receivers entering free agency this offseason, this could be another perfect opportunity for the Eagles to consider a prove-it deal for the wideout.
Most likely, Robinson would prefer to land a long-term deal at a heftier price, but also if his stock continues to increase like it has the previous two seasons, a move like this could work out great in 2020 for both parties.
