4 Ohio State Buckeyes who upgrade Philadelphia Eagles immediately
By the time the combine officially rolls around, none of us will know what the status of Jordan Howard is, but here’s a fact that we all can attest to. The opinions on whether he should stay or go are seemingly split down the middle.
Howard plays football’s most punishing position, and last season, he missed quite a bit of time with what was described as a ‘stinger’. The usual “he’s day-to-day” rhetoric from Doug Pederson went on for two months, and when Howard returned, he was on the field for exactly one offensive play versus the New York Giants, one where he was used as a decoy and didn’t even touch the ball.
Philly’s other running backs on the current roster are Elijah Holyfield, Corey Clement, Miles Sanders, and Boston Scott. The first name on that list belongs to a now-second-year vet who hasn’t quite proved that he’s the bell cow or the game-changer that Philly needs. The second belongs to a once-promising undrafted prospect who’s ended the last two seasons on the injured reserve.
The latter two names, Sanders and Scott, belong to two of Philly’s young guns, but they’re both small and have the same skill set. With all of that being said, it would be wise for Philly to find another back if Howard stays. They may want to find two if he doesn’t.
J.K. Dobbins is a nice option but only if he slides into Round 3 or later. It’s doubtful it will happen, but he may. That will be important because Philadelphia needs to address more pressing needs early.
