. . . Jordan Howard, running back. . player. 54

It’s easy to forget how big of an impact Jordan Howard had on the Eagles’ offense before missing six games with a stinger. His numbers don’t tell the whole story, but for the first nine weeks of the season, Howard had a stranglehold on the lead back role. He amassed 594 yards from scrimmage and seven total touchdowns over that span, limiting rookie phenom Miles Sanders’ role to that of being the ‘change-of-pace’.

On the other hand, it’s also easy to see how dominant Sanders was over the second half of the season. The ability for the Eagles offense to not only sustain success but dominate on the ground will hurt Howard’s value as free agency opens. Still, we could see what we saw in Darby’s situation last season, a short-term deal and a return to Philadelphia.

Don’t forget it only took a conditional sixth-round pick to acquire Howard from the Chicago Bears last offseason. Teams didn’t value Howard highly, and although he proved to be important over the first half of last season, his overall body of work in 2019 didn’t raise his value.

Don’t be surprised if Howard is back with Philadelphia on a one or two-year deal in a complementary role to budding superstar Sanders and third-down threat Boston Scott.
