5 Potential free agents Philadelphia Eagles must re-sign this offseason
Safety Rodney McLeod finds himself in a precarious situation this offseason as the pending free agent had, arguably, the best season of his career in 2019. He only missed one snap due to a bathroom break. That gave him the most snaps on defense outside of Malcolm Jenkins. Both safeties were the backbone of the defense down the stretch, and their return should be atop the list of priorities for Roseman, right behind finding suitable wide receivers.
With all of that being said, what would the particulars of a McLeod deal be? The 30-year-old is just one of a number of talented free-agent safeties hitting the market, including Justin Simmons, Anthony Harris, and Devin McCourty.
Simmons and Harris will command top dollar, leaving McLeod to settle for what’s left as free agency winds down. The Eagles may take advantage of that opportunity and sign McLeod to a two-year deal with a team option for the third year.
McLeod knows the scheme and proved last year he can still play at a high level. His return, coupled with a restructured deal for Jenkins, a free agent corner and the re-signing of Mills should provide Philadelphia with one of the stronger secondaries they’ve had in recent memory.
