A potentially bad idea that gets Stefon Diggs in an Eagles jersey

Look who’s potentially back on the market? It would be wise if the Philadelphia Eagles make one more run at acquiring Stefon Diggs’ services.

At this point, whatever is going on between the Minnesota Vikings and Stefon Diggs needs a reality show and a really cool name. How about “Days of our Lives” or “As the World Turns”? No. Hold on for a second. Those are actually already taken. During the 2019 season, the Philadelphia Eagles, the media, and their fans took an interest in a possible split between the Vikes and their talented receiver, but things got worked out. Diggs remained in Minnesota.

Fast forward, and with the NFL‘s free agency period approaching, rumored splits are again popular topics. Again, stories of Diggs’ dissatisfaction are popping up, but this time it’s serious. This time, ’14’ removed every photo associating himself with the Vikings from his Instagram account. You know it’s a problem when those levels are reached.

If anyone’s taking any bets or feels like placing any, a wise move would be placing a few chips on Diggs getting out of Minneapolis. What does that have to do with Philly you ask? The ‘Birds’ may want to explore some options that will allow him to trade a purple jersey for one that’s midnight green.

All most of us heard about the last efforts were the asking price was too high. So far, nothing has demonstrated that the Eagles are interested in making a pitch this go around. If they did, it isn’t a stretch to assume that again, acquiring Diggs will be expensive.

Though we’re not qualified to do this, the ITI staff came up with an idea. The Vikes will no doubt ask for a high draft pick as part of the compensation. What if Philly traded last year’s second-round selection JJ Arcega-Whiteside and a first-round pick in 2021 for Diggs?

Somewhere, we know some of you guys and gals are throwing sour grapes at the screen, but come on. ESPN’s Mike Clay suggested that the Eagles send a third-round pick and Sidney Jones to the Detroit Lions for Darius Slay, and some of you guys thought that was a brilliant idea. Other than the first-round pick, what makes this one so bad?

Well, then again, that would mean the Eagles would have a lot of money tied up in DeSean Jackson, Alshon Jeffery, and the new guy.

Diggs is scheduled to make $10.9 million in 2020 and over $11 million in 2021, 2022, and 2023. Yeah, Philly loses that first-rounder in 2021, but are there really any potential first-rounders that would be better in 2020 or 2021? There’s no guarantee that’s the case. Plus, it sure beats giving a ton of cash to Amari Cooper. If anyone else has a better idea to get Diggs and one that Minnesota might agree to, the ITI staff would love to hear it. The debate table is wide open.
