Stop what you’re doing and say this out loud. Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Avonte Maddox could breakout in 2020. Don’t knock it. This could happen.

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s February. Think about that for a second. We haven’t even ventured out of the same month that former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid won his first Super Bowl, yet it feels like that was six months ago when it happened. ‘Birds’ fans are already in offseason mode though. All they can seem to think about is the NFL Combine, the league’s impending draft, and whether or not guys like Derek Barnett, JJ Arcega-Whiteside, Sidney Jones, and Avonte Maddox can vault themselves into star status.

If the Eagles are to be successful, they’ll need one or both of the last two guys mentioned to channel their inner Deion Sanders. Okay, maybe that’s a stretch, but they’ll need to at least be better than average.

For Jones, it’s been a career full of frustration. Maddox has also been up and down. Year number two didn’t quite go as planned, but we’ve seen flashes.

2020 presents a big opportunity for this Eagles secondary, and with the addition of new defensive backs coach Marquand Manuel, one or more of these young Eagles corners could explode. Say it out loud if you’re an Eagles fan. This is Avonte Maddox’s breakout season. You have to believe it before it can happen.

Here are three thoughts on a statement that some may see as being full of error.
