Contrary to some of the Philadelphia Eagles fans’ popular opinion, there a quite a few options that are better than Jordan Howard.

Whether you’ve taken the time to acknowledge it or not, we’re coming up on the one year anniversary of one of the things the Philadelphia Eagles actually did right in 2019. Almost 365 days ago, on March 28th to be exact, Philly traded a sixth-round draft choice to the Chicago Bears in exchange for Jordan Howard‘s services.

Now, don’t go popping any champagne yet.

In hindsight, most of us can probably agree that this is one of those moves that worked out. There are a few people who will argue with anything, but the majority would probably agree that there aren’t any sixth-round draft choices who are better than ’24’.

Not only that, the ‘Birds’ got ten games out of Howard. That produced 525 rushing yards on 119 attempts, 69 yards on ten receptions and seven total touchdowns. That’s what we would call the good news.

The not so good news is this. ’24’ missed six games with a ‘stinger’ while we had to be told by Eagles head coach Doug Pederson that he was ‘day-to-day’ for almost two months. He returned for Week 17’s finale versus the New York Giants and got no work. He was on the field for exactly one play. He didn’t touch the ball. Then, Philly kept him on the sideline in the NFC Wild Card Game.

’24’ needs a new deal, and the questions about him mirror the questions everybody else has about guys in the same position. Should the Eagles give him one or not? If they do, it needs to be inexpensive and short. If they don’t there may be better options at the running back position. Let’s count down five of them.
