Philadelphia Eagles best and worst free agent options by position
Running back
Honorable mention: Kareem Hunt, Kenyan Drake
The Eagles have a nice starting point at running back with Boston Scott and Miles Sanders, but they’re also two guys with the same skill set. Philly’s in need of some sort of a sledgehammer to give them more options in their backfield.
If they decide to hang onto him, Jordan Howard is no slouch, but Melvin Gordon might be a tad better option if Philly’s more interested in durability and someone who can hammer the ball up the middle twenty times a game. He’s more expensive, but he’s also higher on the food chain as far as running backs are concerned.
Derrick Henry probably isn’t a realistic option.
Dishonorable mention: LeSean McCoy, Chris Thompson
Peyton Barber will get the looks and his fair share of suitors because he’s young. Unfortunately for him and any team that may land him, he’s also a little clumsy and has done nothing to warrant all of the faith that’s been placed in him over the course of the past few seasons.
He’s had his chances. The Eagles don’t need to give him another one. It would be much appreciated if no one makes any mention of a LeSean McCoy reunion or adding the underachieving Chris Thompson either. The latter hasn’t played in more than ten games since 2016.
