Lane Johnson of the Philadelphia Eagles took a mini-media tour through the FOX Sports 1 studios recently. Here are a few of the highlights.

It’s always good to get an update as to what the Philadelphia Eagles are up to, especially when there aren’t any games to break down. Fortunately, NFL fans have the upcoming combine and draft to talk about, but there are always a few surprises along the way too. How about this one ‘Birds’ fans? Recently Philly’s star right tackle, Lane Johnson, made a quick media tour through the FOX Sports 1 studios.

Not too long ago, he was a guest on Skip and Shannon: UNDISPUTED and on The Herd with Colin Cowherd. Both were great interviews, but if you missed them, here are a couple of highlights.

We begin with his conversation with Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe. Right out of the gate, Bayless, one of the biggest Dallas Cowboys homers known to man, asked about the good old days of his youth where he played a little quarterback and tight end.

Here’s some of what ’65’ had to say on that.

"Nobody dreams of being an offensive lineman (laughs). Well, they did a summer thing with Jammal Brown. When he got there, he was a few years ahead of me, but he was a defensive tackle… Mark Mangino ends up talking to (Bob) Stoops about moving him (He) ends up converting… And then, he ends up coming to me that Spring. I’m going through my Junior year, and our right tackle gets hurt and he says ‘do you want to play’ and I said ‘no’. I was playong defensive end… I was a rotational guy during the Spring.. Jarvis Jones went down. I think it was a knee injury, and the next thing I know, I’m kick-sliding and I’ve been here ever since."

Many of us had heard the story before, but could you imagine what might have happened had things worked out differently or if someone had taken the time to develop him in the pocket? Might we have met a slimmer Johnson who might have been a decent backup to Carson Wentz?

As most of you know, Skip and Shannon are followed daily by one of the most controversial voices in sports radio, FS1’s Colin Cowherd. Of course, those crazy Eagles fans got a mention, and like the show that precedes Cowherd’s, the usual questions that are asked of anyone that’s a teammate of Carson Wentz’s came up.

Is the criticism of his leadership valid? Johnson defended his teammate to Bayless, and he reiterated much of what he said when speaking to Cowherd.

"(The stories come) when you don’t win. We have expectations ever since winning the Super Bowl… Our goal is to get to the playoffs and start winning… Mobody faced more scrutiny over the past couple of years than Carson. I think t was a weird predicament (that) he was in with Nick Foles. I think he did a really good job of ignoring the noise. I think he worked his tail off this year… They had the whole ‘injury-prone’ label and this and that. I think he did a good job of workin hrough it… I think he answered a lot of questions this year. You take a lot of big-play receivers away from teams and see how they respond."

Say what you want about Cowherd. He does great interviews.

This one ran the gamut from whether or not ’65’ regrets stating that he’d rather have fun than do things the New England Patriots‘ way, whether or not the league should add another regular-season game, and what he thinks is wrong with the Cowboys. ’65’ signed a massive four-year, $72 million contract extension with the Eagles with $54.595 million guaranteed on November 29th of 2019, making him the highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL. That came just 18 days after Brandon Brooks signed a four-year, $54.2 million contract extension through 2024 on November 11th. Brooks was named to his third straight Pro Bowl on December 17th. Johnson followed as a late addition, giving him his third straight nod.

Jason Kelce, who made the Pro Bowl in 2014, 2016, and 2019 and was Philly’s lone First-team All-Pro in 2019 has been the subject of some talk as there are questions about how much longer he’ll play. For now, it appears that he’s set to return in 2020 as he recently signed a one-year extension that guarantees he’ll be in Philly through 2021.

The ‘Birds’ took Andre Dillard 22nd overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, and Isaac Seumalo has evolved into one of the better young guards in the league. Philly’s O-line appears to be in great shape just three years after being named the Built Ford Tough Offensive Line of the Year in 2017.

They’ll look to add depth in the upcoming draft, but Eagles fans should be happy. Carson Wentz has a nice set of bodyguards heading into 2020’s season even if ‘The Bodyguard’ aka Jason Peters is indeed at an end with his run in Philly.
