3 Reasons Philadelphia Eagles should be concerned about Andre Dillard
Is anyone else seeing signs that the Philadelphia Eagles don’t seem to be totally committed to giving Andre Dillard the green light?
They’re called certainties, those things that we can bank on, even if we take them for granted. Most people know what a donut should taste like, so when you bite into one from Krispy Kreme or Dunkin’ Donuts, you’ll know immediately if you’ve been given a bad one. Sports fans have certainties as well. When the Philadelphia Eagles took Andre Dillard 22nd-overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, we were all certain of three things.
One, the ‘Birds’ already had a future Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee playing at left tackle. Second, when the 2019 regular season began it would be Jason Peters and not Dillard filling that position in the starter’s role.
Third, knowing that Dillard was taken in the first round made it abundantly clear to Eagles fans that the plan was for the new guy to take over for ‘The Bodyguard’ whenever Peters decided to call it a career or whenever Philly decided to move on from the man who has protected to the blindside of both Donovan McNabb and Carson Wentz.
Peters has survived three coaching regimes in Philly, and he’s even been there during Michael Vick‘s era. It’s been a long ride for ‘The Bodyguard’ in the ‘City of Brotherly Love’.
He played well in 2019, but it wasn’t the Jason Peters we were accustomed to. He looked old. He committed too many penalties and following Eagles vice president and general manager Howie Roseman‘s statements that Philly needed to get less expensive and younger (something most of us knew beforehand), we were all certain that Peters’ time in Philly was at its end.
Don’t look now, but that may not be the case. No one’s certain that Philly will give ‘The Bodyguard’ one more run, but we aren’t certain that they won’t either. Knowing that raises several questions about Dillard. Here are three reasons ‘Birds’ fans should be worried about ’77’.
