What if someone told you the Philadelphia Eagles may have a chance to land Laviska Shenault in a later round and for less money? Would you be interested?

Not even a month ago, Laviska Shenault Jr.was the subject of a ton of talk around the Philadelphia Eagles fan base, and his name was rolling off of the tongues of draft experts as someone who might be taken in Round 1 of the upcoming NFL Draft.

No one’s saying all of that is out of the window, but some very concerning news dropped about the former Colorado Buffaloes standout on Saturday.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Shenault battled through his NFL Combine workout while dealing with “a core muscle injury and inflammation of the pubic bone”. He’s been dealing with this for a while, so since there have been no improvements physically, he’ll undergo surgery. The recovery time should be about four-to-six weeks, and he shouldn’t miss the start of the 2020 regular season.

Unfortunately, you know what this type of news does to draft stock sometimes. Some people are saying this may be one of the deepest wide receiver classes in draft history. This will, no doubt, result in a slight decline in the interest that’s surrounded Shenault as injuries have followed him throughout his collegiate career, but something else is also at work here.

If he does fall out of Round 1, the question is when might his name be called? If the stars align, maybe Philly can take a shot at him in a later round and land him for less money. It’s not a terrible option. To his credit and despite the pain, Shenault was a ‘dog’ in the combine workouts, running a 4.58-second 40-yard dash and throwing up 17 reps on the bench press.

If he, progresses well after surgery, and someone can get him at a discount, don’t be surprised if we’re using words like ‘steal’ at this time of the year next offseason.
