With the Philadelphia Eagles in need of help at the cornerback position, Xavier Rhodes could be a surprise option all of a sudden.

Could the Philadelphia Eagles end up expressing interest in Xavier Rhodes since the cornerback is all of a sudden available?

A few weeks ago, Rhodes seemed like the last player that would be available for any team to consider adding to their roster for the 2020 season when taking into consideration the cornerback recently earned Pro Bowl honors for the third time in four years.

But unfortunately, it looks like the money factor came into play for the Minnesota Vikings in regards to Rhodes, who was released by the team on Friday to help free up some salary cap space.

For obvious reasons, it shouldn’t take long for Rhodes to find a new home for the 2020 season since the veteran is still playing at a high level, and there are plenty of teams in desperate need of help at the cornerback position, including the Eagles.

To say Philadelphia was inconsistent at cornerback in 2019 would be a huge understatement, whether it involved injuries to players such as Ronald Darby or some of the younger players like Sidney Jones and Avonte Maddox struggling to live up to previous expectations.

Most likely, the Eagles will be giving it another go with Jones and Maddox while letting Darby hit the open market since he’s struggled to stay healthy in each of the last three seasons, meaning there is going to be room on the depth chart for someone like Rhodes.

Even though it took Rhodes a little bit longer than expected to become a Pro Bowl cornerback for the Vikings after being selected in the first round of the draft back in 2013, his recent play over the years shows he deserves some sort of consideration from the Eagles.

When looking at how the rest of the NFC East is shaping up for 2020, Philadelphia realizes it will be easier said than done to earn a fourth trip in a row to the playoffs next season, and the pressure will be on to fill certain positions of weaknesses.

As previously mentioned, if the Eagles do end up expressing interest in Rhodes at some point, there will be plenty of other teams competing for the cornerback’s services as well, but at the right price, this could very well be worth it.
