Philadelphia Eagles scouting reports: Free-agent CB power rankings
The cream rose to the top of this crop months ago. We all knew that Byron Jones was in a contract season when 2019’s campaign began. We knew he’d be one of the more sought after prospects if the Dallas Cowboys allowed him to get out of the building. Nothing has happened to change that theory.
The Eagles ignored Jones before so they could draft Nelson Agholor. They have a chance to right that wrong now. (March 16th update: Signing with the Miami Dolphins (5 years for $82.5 million)
James Bradberry is the best cornerback in free agency not named Byron Jones. In 60 career games with the Carolina Panthers, he’s amassed 279 total tackles. 222 were of the solo variety. Add that to three sacks, two forced fumbles, eight picks, and 47 pass breakups. He’s worth a look if Jones isn’t an option. March 16th update: Signing with the New York Giants (3 years for $45 million)
Yes, he’s old. Sure, no man’s body will hold up forever, but you have to figure Chris Harris has a couple of great years left in that 30-year-old frame of his. He’s better than any cornerback the Eagles have on their roster currently.
Darqueze Dennard scares everyone interested because, even though he’s only 28 years of age, he’s only been able to play all 16 games of an NFL season once. He’s probably a better option to play in the slot than on the outside, but it’s fair to say he’s in the top five of the cover guys who will be available in free agency.
Bradley Roby may be the most inconsistent guy on this list. He’s good for a season. Then, he falls off in the next. If history is any indication, you can expect a collapse is coming in 2020, but that’s why the Eagles have Marquand Manuel on the coaching staff. It’s his job to get the best out of guys like Roby if Philly brings those guys in. March 16th update: Re-signed with the Houston Texans (3 years for $36 million)
