Philadelphia Eagles will regret not trading for DeAndre Hopkins
By Dan Parzych
Philadelphia Eagles fans are left wondering what could have been after seeing the Houston Texans trade DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals on Monday.
With the Philadelphia Eagles in need of help at the wide receiver position leading up to the 2020 season, there’s no question the potential addition of a big playmaker in DeAndre Hopkins would have been a dream come true for the NFC East champions.
Between DeSean Jackson‘s first season back turning out to be a disappointment due to injuries along with Alshon Jeffery struggling to stay healthy over the last few years, the Eagles hope to improve at wide receiver this offseason.
As for Hopkins, well reports emerged on Monday the Houston Texans were open to listening to trade offers for the wideout, leaving plenty of football fans wondering if Howie Roseman would figure out a way to pull off another one of his magical deals.
Unfortunately, the Arizona Cardinals would end up being the ones winning the sweepstakes to land Hopkins in a trade with the Texans, and if hearing this news wasn’t already frustrating enough for Eagles fans, the details of the deal were even more infuriating.
First off, it’s safe to assume that just about every football fan is in agreement that Arizona absolutely robbed Houston in this deal to acquire Hopkins to provide Kyler Murray with a new reliable weapon to work with.
Not only will the Texans be taking on David Johnson‘s ridiculous contract, but the Cardinals didn’t even have to give up a first-round pick in order to for this trade to happen.
When looking at how Hopkins is considered one of the most reliable receivers in the NFL, early signs point to this trade turning out to be an absolute steal for Arizona to put the team in better position to make the serious leap to contender in 2020.
Meanwhile, some Eagles fans are feeling a little frustration over the fact that Philadelphia could have easily pulled off a trade like this with the Texans, and missed out on the perfect opportunity to boost their receiving corps.
Instead of Philadelphia landing another reliable weapon for Carson Wentz to work with in Hopkins, the team is left looking at other options for 2020, whether they happen to be through free agency or the draft in April.
Even if Hopkins was never considered a realistic option for the Eagles, after seeing what the Cardinals had to give up, it’s still difficult not to wonder what could have been.
