Philadelphia Eagles roundup: 2 Roster announcements and 3 rumors
Let’s talk about three rumors.
Well, it wouldn’t be free agency if there wasn’t a little gossip swirling. It appears whether fans are ready or not and even though he may not be ready, the Andre Dillard era is set to begin in Philadelphia.
Jason Peters has been allowed to sow his royal oats in free agency, and earlier this week the NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported that Halapoulivaati Vaitai is “expected to do very well in free agency”. Garafolo states that he has heard numbers between $8m to $12m per year for the potential free agent to be. Truthfully ‘Big V’ deserves it. It’s just too bad that the Eagles and some of their fans can’t see it.
Is he perfect? No, he isn’t, but guys who can play both tackle spots on the offensive line and play a little guard if need be are rare if not impossible to find. ‘Big V’ can do all of that, but it appears he may leave the nest soon. Now, Philly will probably fill his roster spot with an aging veteran who’s coming off of injury or in danger of suffering one.
Then, there’s this. NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Derrick Gunn reports that, according to a league source, the New York Jets may have their sights set on Vinny Curry, and the Detroit Lions may be interested in Jalen Mills.
The news on Mills is surprising but it isn’t huge. Some theories were supporting both the argument of him leaving and staying. The Curry rumors make sense. There’s already ties there to Jets General Manager and former Eagles Vice President of Player Personnel, Joe Douglas. All three were a part of Philly’s march to a Super Bowl win, but at this point, depending on who you ask, you may be able to find a few fans that will take Curry to New York or Mills to Detroit themselves.
