Shortly after the Philadelphia Eagles announced the acquisition and extension of Darius Slay he made his debut on 94 WIP-FM. Let the fireworks begin.

What a difference a trade makes. The deafening silence of a Philadelphia Eagles team that wasn’t doing too much in the earlier stages of free agency has been replaced by an audible sigh of relief by the fan base and media. After missing out on the top two cornerbacks available in a free-agency pool full of fish, Philly’s brass orchestrated a trade of enormous proportions when they gave up a third-round and a fifth-round draft selection to acquire Darius Slay.

Then, they sweetened the pot with one of the game’s best by extending his current deal by three years and giving him $50 million in good old American cash. $30 million of that sum total is guaranteed.

Now, there are a lot of ways that we can look at this. We can talk about how Eagles executive vice president and general manager Howie Roseman can’t keep wagering draft capital to sign proven guys in an effort to hide the fact that his drafts have stunk. We could argue about how this secondary would be vicious with Slay, Jenkins, and a couple of young and capable draft picks who play corner.

We could even talk about Yannick Ngakoue, but those are all tales for another day, especially when, hours after the news broke of the trade, 94 WIP-FM’s Jon Marks and Ike Reese scored a very entertaining interview with Philly’s new star corner. What follows is some of the highlights of that conversation. Buckle up. You’re going to love this.
