Let’s wrap this up.

Here’s where things get tricky. With the Jags tagging this talented prospect, as mentioned, he’s set to make around $17.7 million during the upcoming season. That is unless both sides can work out a long-term deal. Then, he’d obviously make more.

Philly would have to put that number on their books as if their defensive line isn’t expensive enough already, and they’d still have to hammer out a long-term deal to keep him in the fold. Otherwise, he becomes a very expensive rental that still doesn’t guarantee Philly will win a Super Bowl while he’s a member of the team.

Ngakoue turns 25 on March 31st, so the combination of skill and there being minimal tread on the tires makes him a guy Philly and every other NFL team must do their due diligence on.

Acquiring him now means they probably wind up giving up a high draft choice in 2020 and another pick or two in 2021. That’s a lot of draft capital, especially for a team that just gave up a third and fourth-rounder to land Darius Slay, who they just gave a three-year, $50 million extension to.

Did we mention that Philly has to start nailing their selections with some of these draft picks?

More. Is Schwartz too involved in roster and hiring decisions?. light

Philly’s got a ton of needs (linebacker, wide receiver, pass rushers, safeties, and another corner). Though adding one of the best young talents at one of the team’s biggest areas of need is enticing, Philly may want to do a little addition by subtraction and spread their money around to fill out their roster with several guys who are less expensive instead.
